-Why does John Van Benschoten keep getting chance after chance after chance to prove himself up here, when it's quite obvious to someone with half a brain that he's a complete bust? If you give up 7 runs in 1 1/3 of an inning against The Padres, a team whose lucky if they score that many runs in a week, than you don't deserve to be in MLB. Period. Not just that, but I believe Johnny V.B. has the honor of having the highest ERA in baseball history for somebody with at least however many starts he has. That's just sad. Either claim a veteran pitcher whose is out of options/on waivers, or let someone from AAA/AA take his spot in the rotation to finish out the season. I guarantee you they can't do any worse than Johnny V.B. did. GO AWAY!!!

-Speaking of S.D., I don't care if Nady, Marte, or half The Pirates just got traded, their is no excuse ever to lose 2/3 games,(so far), against a glorified expansion team like The Padres. Forget what I said about Washington, Colorado, etc. The Padres are a varitable whose who of has- beens and losers. I've seen slow pitched beer league softball teams who posess a more intimidating line up than the one S.D. trots out. Their record speaks for itself. Yet The Pirates are on the verge of losing 3 out of 4 games at home to these choads. Too bad The Bucs can't play The Astros 162 times a year!

-Speaking of the trade, what did everyone think of the deal that sent Nady and Marte to The N.Y. Yankees for 4 prospects? I don't have an opinion until I get more info on the 4 sent here. Either way, I'll probably go something like this; They'll either be complete busts, or they'll get good and sign with another club when their free agents, or they'll get good and management will ship them off at the trading deadline under the guise that they are making deals to improve the team, when any fan can see that it's an obvious salary dump. Rinse and repeat. Same s***, different year.

-27,000+ at Saturday's game featuring 2 basement dwellers, and it looked to be the same, if not more, at Friday's game. Boy, you people still going to these games must be comfortable with this team being a laughingstock every year. I've said it before and I'll say it again; If you keep paying to see garbage, then you'll keep getting garbage.

First thoughts on all the reports that I have seen by Huntington and his take on the trades, condition of the team, and overall future is that he is trying to sell what he is shoveling. Future, future, future. After 15 years of losing, hasn't the future already past?

To me, it is like saving for retirement, but at the end of every year, you take the money that you saved, take it out of the account, put it in a glass jar and let it collect dust. Sure, you are going to have future, but it is not going to gain any value. Bottom line is, Pirates are in last place most of the time this season, and traded away the players that were producing. Looking at the Runs Allowed, the Pirates are top the list in MLB. Therefore, there is most of the problem. Pitching, pitching, pitching. They had a good performance last night, but they need that 6 out of 10 games to win the division and that is just not possible with the talent they have had, have, or will have. You cannot nt build a MLB team through minor league system totally. You hve to have big money, big name, free agent(s) in the mix to bake the success cake and that is something that the Pirates are just not going to do.

15 losing season, still a lot of the same management around as there was 15 years ago. Time to change and overhaul. until the Pirates do that, then expect this for the next 50 years.

The 800 lb. Ape in the room that nobody wants to talk about amongst these trades is cheapwad Bob Nutting. It takes more to build a winning ballclub than aquiring young prospects and drafting wisely. You also must be willing to plow a substantial amount of $$$ into the team as well.(See The Brewers.) Until he comes to grips with this,(if he ever does), than the Pirates will continue to lose year after year after year. Mad
